This painting combines my skeleton fetish with my love of big cats. It depicts the Voodoo Loa called Baron Samedi as a lion. He has a black top hat with purple feathers, and a stylized skull painted on his face. The floating rib cage gives the lion a ghostly appearance, while the glowing flames around the mane suggest a dark or demonic presence. The oval iron frame contributes to an old-time Victorian vibe. If you look closely, there are thirteen whisker dots on each whisker pad.
