The original name of this painting was The Fear of Death but Teddy Reaper just seems to fit better. While the grim reaper is the main figure, the teddy bear kind of steals the show. Many people have wanted to know where Death got the teddy bear, why he has it, or who he took it from. I don't know the answer. The trees and morning light suggest that the reaper is on his way somewhere or perhaps just returning from a job, but maybe he brought the bear with him or maybe he very recently acquired it. I prefer to leave that open to interpretation.
