This painting started out as a very rough sketch of a Pallas's Cat (Otocolobus manul). That's where the bright eyes, wide open mouth, short ears, and the orange and green colors came from. Beyond the superficial, this tabby cat bears no resemblance to the original photo. Pallas's Cats are awesome though, I invite you to google them.
The original title for this painting was Happy Happy Joy Cat, a reference to the Ren and Stimpy happy helmet. The tented fingers remind me of Mr. Burns from The Simpsons whenever he says "excellent".
While I think of this cat as happy, and probably scheming, I've had customers call it crazy cat. That works too.
